WhiskyPics is a blog by whisky expert and former photographer/photojournalist Hans Brandstaetter.

Born and raised in Austria, Hans became fascinated with Scotland and Scotch whisky more than 30 years ago. He moved to Scotland in 2014 with the intention to make a career in the spirits industry.

After brief stints as a distiller/tour guide at a Highland distillery and as manager of a gin distillery start-up, he is now operations manager for Mossburn Distillers Ltd. His focus is the establishment of The Reivers Distillery in Tweedbank, Scottish Borders, an experimental facility that will double as product development plant as well as small-volume (‘craft’) distillery.

Hans has explored over 70 distilleries in Scotland and has tasted hundreds of whiskies from all over the world. In 2016 he has been invited to be an advisor for the world’s northermost distillery, Aurora Spirit, in Norway.

He lives in the Scottish Borders near Jedburgh together with his family.

    R. Thierschmann
